hey there! i'm going to try and show you how i go about making art because i've been asked how i do a few times in the past and also to have it on hand to refer back to if i ever get asked in the future
so to start i take a picture of the drawing with my phone, and this acts as the lineart. occasionally i will do cleanup and some other manipulating, but for the most part all i do to the lineart is crop and adjust contrast and such
next i open it in an image editor and set the lineart blend mode to
multiply with a blank white background underneath
and from there it's pretty simple, i just start coloring and shading on various layers until i end up with something that looks like this:
and for most drawings, aside from some color touch-up and whatnot, i'd be done there, but for the sake of this i'll go one step further and do some silly lighting stuff too
first i'll change the background color, then merge all the color and shade layers together and lower their opacity so it tints the colors slightly
for more dynamic shadows, i then copy the color layer, recolor it all to one color, and set it to
multiply. then, with a soft brush, erase all the sections that should be lit
next, i make another copy of the color layer, recolor it to black, and merge it with a pure white layer. then i set that layer to
screen, and presto, pure white background around the character! i tend to make several of layers like this of varying opacity and blend modes, just to get the exact effect i want
finally, i start airbrushing light around the edges. for this step i tend to use a bunch of different colors and typically only set the blend mode to
screen and sometimes
overlay. after some minor touch-ups and effects, we're left with this:
and there you go, that's how i make art! nothing too fancy, and my process is pretty inefficient and limited, but i feel i've optimized it pretty well. hope you enjoyed the read, and if you have any questions or anything i'd be happy to answer them! :^)
